Four tramps inhabit a deserted train station. They desperately wish to escape this godforsaken place. Under the despotic directorship of the criminal Meto, they endlessly train for Getting on the Train. But no trains stop at the deserted station. The tramps include: Luko: Ex-Stationmaster,Luba: An alcoholic and Doko: Who constantly weeps for his favorite dead bear, whose food he regularly sold for booze.
And so, their lives are wasted in endless rehearsals, drinking and grumbling about the dictatorial Meto, who presents himself as the famous conductor and intellectual Meto von Metonyan. A train stops one day, and throws off another alcoholic. The newcomer is wearing a worn top hat and tails and is deathly drunk. During the night, Meto kills him. The next morning, the horrified tramps see Meto wearing his tuxedo. Suddenly, the victim emerges from the station with a knife in his belly. Meto faints. Shaking with a hangover, the victim drinks a beer and comes to. He takes the knife out of his belly and introduces himself as… Harry Houdini, illusionist and showman. For a daily dose of alcohol, he promises to teach the drunks a great magic trick. In this way, they will escape that horrible place. Under the tutelage of the Great Illusionist, they begin their daily lessons.
In the meantime, strange things start happening at the station. The dead bear appears every night at the booth, selling tickets. Every ticket is for the 20th of August. Losing power, Meto attempts to reveal the Great Illusionist as a fraud. But, Harry proves the reality of his illusions. On August 20th, their train stops, they board and depart…and then, they realize that the train has neither passengers nor a conductor. Terrified, the tramps beg Harry to stop the train. He
tells them that this is an illusion-train, a figment of their imagination that has no power over them. In this way, he reveals that the world does not exist and is only an illusion. As proof, Harry shows them something really impossible that could happen only in the imagination. He enters a metal box, and when they lift the lid, they find he has disappeared. To prove that this is just another trick, Luko enters the box. When the others lift the lid, they find he, too, has disappeared. And so, they disappear, one by one. Doko is the last to enter the box. He locks himself in, but cannot disappear. He tries again and again, with no result. Left alone, he decides that maybe he has disappeared without knowing it. And then, he realizes that disappearing maybe means being left alone…

The Colonel Bird - 6 male, 1 female |
|
|
|
In a small psychiatric ward situated in a former monastery and lost somewhere in the mountains in the Balkans, six patients and a very young doctor are left to their fate. In the winter they are completely snow-bound and lost to the world; left with out food, heating or pharmaceuticals. They even have to gather together in a single room, to avoid freezing to death.
At the fatal moment when the patients are facing their hungry and cold death, UN planes heading from Bosnia, having lost their way in a winter storm during the night, drop humanitarian aid by mistake. The parcels contain food and military uniforms for clothes.
The next morning one of the patients, a former military man, who has remained speechless for the past three years, approaches - shaved, trim and dapper in a military uniform. His compelling behaviour very quickly provokes the patients' military reflexes and they gradually remember life in the barracks, and eventually adapt themselves to it. The strict military discipline makes them forget their illness and transforms them into a combat military unit. In act of gratitude for UN assistance, they decide to join NATO. Dresses up as "Blue helmets" they start to western Europe... |

District Hospital
(The Colonel's Wife) - 6 male, 2 female |
|
|
|
An unidentified patient, who has lost his memory, appears in a small
district hospital in the deep countryside. Obviously a man of the
soil he
had been found in a state of shock beside a crashed NATO-aircraft.
Not knowing
his name, the doctors give name him after his diagnosis Contusio
Cerebris. This strange "name" is a reason to be suspected
of being the crashed American pilot by the other patients ( all
of them are common people). Of course he doesn't speak English because
he has it forgotten after the shock.
Day after day they create for him the biography of a very important
and rich
military man, basing their fantasy on the myth of the Great America.
In the
beginning he doesn't believe it but little by little he begins to
like
this story. In finally they even invent his wife - a beautiful American
actress. The man falls in love in his "wife" and constantly
watches TV,
hoping to recognize her. Being afraid of losing his memory again,
he writes
down his "biography" several times (to be safe). One of
the other patients
sends all the copies to the most famous word medias and "the
sensation" blows
up over the world. A special NATO-commission (searching for disappeared
soldiers)
arrives and hands him military cross "July The Fourth".
The ceremony appears
on the CNN-news… One day his wife arrives too. Unfortunately she
isn't an
actress but a modest village woman who has recognized her husband
on TV.
The meeting is either funny and tragic. The man refuses to accept
the
reality and continues to live in his inexistent but wonderful biography.
Eventually Colonel Cerebris finds the wife of his dreams…
This is the story of only one of the five main characters. All the
others participate in it and have their own fortune.
